Who We Are

The New Progressive South is a South Carolina-based organization committed to transforming the political landscape in the South by centering the voices and values of working people. Rooted in the belief that organized labor is the backbone of a thriving democracy, we work to bridge the gap between working people and political power by training union members to become strong progressive candidates for public office.

We are a community of labor advocates, community organizers, and allies who understand that the members of the movement for working people must occupy political office if we are going to have genuine political power. One motivation that underlines all of our training is our desire to see new waves of leaders stepping forward to advance the progressive movement across the South. Through innovative training programs and grassroots community organizing efforts, we empower union members and their allies to:

• Run for Office: We prepare card-carrying union members to step into the political arena with confidence, deploying them with the tools, resources, and support necessary to lead and win.
• Community Organizing: We teach union members and their allies how to build and activate community networks, ensuring that our candidates and causes have the people power to succeed.
