Building real political power for working people.
Chester, SC — On a day dedicated to honoring those who lost their lives on the job, the City of Chester made history. Join our team of dedicated volunteers and make a difference in the lives of those we serve. Whether it's serving meals at a homeless shelter or mentoring a child in need, there are many ways to get involved and give back.
The New Progressive South is dedicated to building political power for working people and their families. By equipping union members to run for office and teaching them and their allies how to organize and mobilize communities. We aim to train the next generation of Community Organizers and progressive candidates who champion workers’ rights, articulate a new vision for our communities, and foster change where it matters most.
The New Progressive South is proud to support a network of trained, dedicated community organizers who are committed to ongoing volunteer work across Chester, Lancaster, and York counties—and we’re continuing to grow. Our programs are designed to empower local leaders, foster civic engagement, and drive lasting change from the ground up.
Historic Victory: Workers’ Rights Resolution Passed
We made history in South Carolina with the successful passage of the Workers’ Rights Resolution in Chester County—unanimously supported by local leaders. This landmark resolution marks the first of its kind in the state, setting a powerful precedent for labor advocacy and community-driven change.
We recognize the vital role of the faith-based community in advancing our movement. That’s why we’ve built strong relationships with religious institutions across Baptist, AME, and Biblelight Conventions and Districts.
We’ve also partnered with local businesses and grassroots organizations that uplift our youth and young adults—such as Lancaster Boxing Club, Black Girls Run, Men United, and York County Rising. Together, we’re building a network rooted in mentorship, empowerment, and community care.

A New Direction for South Carolina
South Carolina is at a crossroads. While Republican dominance continues to favor the powerful and Democratic leadership struggles to offer meaningful alternatives, a new progressive wave is emerging to meet the moment. At the forefront is Brandon Upson—an eighth-generation South Carolinian, Army veteran, and fearless advocate—whose leadership reflects a deep commitment to justice, equity, and community. Upson and others like him represent a bold shift toward people-powered politics, grounded in service, resilience, and an unwavering belief in a better South Carolina for all. Check it out!
